You can find Thalagune nestled away in the hill valleys of the Kandy district, a village that is home to a community of families whose linage of brilliant indigenous hand-loom weavers have sold their woven products to kandyian aristocrats in ancient times. Their skill is passed on from generation to generation, concentrating the rare talent of “Thalagune” weaving thereby making their products highly sort after in current times.

 

The “Thalagune” weaving technique is a time-consuming process and truly a labor of love, the distinctive motifs are achieved using a special weaving method unique to the weavers. Keeping In line with the age old traditions of the craft yet adapting to modern needs and trends this community produces several products from sarees to cushion covers where each craft based item has its own exclusive touch and timeless beauty.
